Music (Director of Choral Activities), Tenure-Track Faculty The School of Music at Middle Tennessee State University invites dynamic and creative musicians and educators with a proven record of excellence as a conductor, classroom instructor, mentor and recruiter to apply for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor to serve as the Director of Choral Activities. The Director of Choral Activities will be actively engaged in research and deeply committed to quality instruction and musicianship. The successful candidate will serve as the primary leader in recruitment, artistic direction, and strategic planning for ensemble growth for all MTSU choral ensembles. The successful candidate will lead Schola Cantorum in rehearsal and performance while also preparing undergraduate and graduate courses in conducting, music education, and academic areas based on the candidate's areas of specialization. Responsibilities Lead Schola Cantorum in rehearsal and performance Prepare undergraduate and graduate courses in conducting, music education, and academic areas Serve as the primary leader in recruitment, artistic direction, and strategic planning for ensemble growth Requirements Terminal degree in conducting or music education required by the appointment date Three years of full-time teaching at the collegiate level required Applicants with a minimum of three years middle school or high school classroom teaching experience will receive special consideration Other Desirables Excellent musicianship skills Comprehensive knowledge of standard choral literature with a commitment to the performance of new music Knowledge of current performance practice, including the incorporation of cross-disciplinary initiatives and commitment to various genres How to Apply To successfully apply, applicants must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, and statement of research or creative activities (as appropriate to the discipline) as separate attachments at the time of online application.
