Salary note: The previously determined range for this position was $36.08 to $80.98/hr. The final rate offered will be determined by collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a rate at or near the top of the full range for a position.

Position Summary

The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and works to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. The Staff Nurse I collaborates with the health care team to advocate for patients, develops patient educational plans, and responds to changing patient needs while supporting department goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and input from the patient’s family.
  • Shares information and collaborates with the health care team to promote effective patient care.
  • Verifies and implements orders from physicians and document accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Engages with patients and families to develop educational plans.
  • Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to changing patient needs.
  • Delegates appropriate tasks to support personnel per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides guidance.
  • Advocates for patients, families, the community, and the nursing profession.
  • Applies theory, evidence-based practice, and current standards to provide quality care as measured by nursing quality standards.
  • Assumes Charge Nurse duties when assigned and uses appropriate resources.
  • Collaborates with nurses to promote learning experiences for staff and students; serves as a preceptor or resource as needed.
  • Engages in ongoing professional growth and development.
  • Other duties as assigned and participates in special projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current (AHA) BLS/CPR and/or other required unit-specific certifications.
  • Current (AHA) ACLS.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written).
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
