Dental Assistant III - UI Health, Craniofacial Center

Join to apply for the Dental Assistant III role at UI Health. This role provides chairside and clerical support in the Craniofacial Center, assisting orthodontists, prosthodontists, dentists, medical artists, and residents/fellows in the delivery of dental care and maxillofacial services in an ambulatory clinic setting.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide chairside assistance, including transferring instruments, manipulating materials, retracting tissue, and evacuating fluids.
  • Assist with rubber dam application, prepare anesthetic syringe, prepare matrix bands, and sharpen/sterilize instruments.
  • Instruct patients on proper oral hygiene techniques.
  • Maintain aseptic environment and follow infection control procedures; clean/disinfect clinical surfaces; sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Manage inventory of prosthetic, dental, and general clinic supplies and order supplies as needed.
  • Coordinate and schedule appointments for patients in other hospital clinics for consultations and treatment.
  • Make dental impressions for diagnostic purposes under dentist supervision.
  • Prepare and take digital and film-based radiographs; train lower-level staff on technique and radiation protection requirements.
  • Check dates on lab cases and coordinate with patient appointments.
  • Prepare day sheets listing patient appointments, procedures, and practitioners.
  • Prepare packets for dental care authorization, monitor denials or authorizations, and escalate as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years (24 months) of work experience in dental assisting comparable to Dental Assistant II, including experience in four-handed dentistry.
  • Current Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) by the Dental Assisting National Board, if required by the employing institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred bilingual Spanish speaking.
  • Preferred 2 years of experience in an ambulatory setting.
  • Preferred experience with cleft and craniofacial conditions.
  • Preferred experience working with surgeons, orthodontists, maxillofacial prosthodontists, and dentists.
