Overview UC Health is seeking a Communications Specialist – Emergency Transport (CERT) to join our Air Care & Mobile Care team. This vital role serves as the first point of contact in coordinating emergency, critical care, and non-emergency medical transport, ensuring efficient communication and safe delivery of services to patients via air and ground transport.
The Specialist is responsible for triaging incoming calls, dispatching transport teams, maintaining real-time vehicle tracking, and facilitating communication between medical teams, EMS, referral facilities, and aviation vendors. This role directly contributes to the safety and quality of our patient transport services and plays a key part in disaster response coordination across the Greater Cincinnati region.

Unit Details Air Care & Mobile Care has provided the Greater Cincinnati area with specialized medical transport services for patients in our community for over 35 years.
Air Care & Mobile Care is the only service in the region to be accredited in four levels of medical transport by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.
Air Care & Mobile Care specializes in transporting critically injured and sick patients, bringing UC Medical Center care to the patient.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Education: Required – High School Diploma or GED
Preferred – Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare or communications-related field
Licensure/Certification (Preferred But Not Required) Current EMT or Paramedic certification in Ohio or National Registry, or equivalent emergency medical dispatching experience
Experience Minimum of 1 year of EMT/Paramedic experience or emergency dispatching
3+ years preferred in a transport communications or EMS environment
Skills & Abilities Strong multitasking and decision-making ability under pressure
Excellent verbal and written communication
Proficiency with computer software (MS Office, CAD systems, GPS systems)
Typing speed: 20–30 WPM
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress, team-oriented environment
Knowledge of EMS, medical terminology, FAA regulations, and emergency communication systems
Responsibilities (Primary) Safety (30%): Monitor air and ground medical transport using vehicle tracking and communication systems; follow emergency protocols in coordination with aviation and ground operations; maintain situational awareness of weather, routing, and radio communications; ensure safety standards and PAIP competencies are followed.
Clinical Communications (20%): Receive and triage transport requests; match patient needs to transport team skill level and urgency; communicate relevant clinical information securely and professionally; coordinate region-wide disaster response during mass casualty events.
Operational Support (20%): Use CAD systems to document and monitor operations; collaborate with leadership to adjust staffing and resources in real-time; follow aviation and EMS operational guidelines and participate in ongoing training.
Customer Service (20%): Provide exceptional service to referring providers, patients, families, and transport teams; uphold UC Health PRIIDE values; represent UC Health professionally in all communications.
Professional Development (10%): Stay up to date with industry standards and participate in quality improvement initiatives, internal education, and department projects.
