Overview The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced and highly creative Supervising Video Editor to join its video team in New York. WSJ Video blends deep reporting with an array of formats: investigations, short and longform field pieces, fast-paced quick turn news content, video podcasts, social content, and series. We are constantly innovating how we tell stories.
The ideal candidate has an extensive background editing across these varied formats, strong news judgment, and a passion for news and documentary storytelling. You will own edits, working with raw material from the field and studio shoots, building compelling stories and narratives. You will weave in b-roll, verite, dialogue and interviews, shape pacing and feel, and expertly weave in music when needed. Expert experience with Adobe Premiere is required.

You Will Manage multiple edits and timelines simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met
Collaborate with producers, reporters, executive producers, and the graphics team to produce videos
Provide technical and creative guidance to editors and producer/editors, ensuring projects align with WSJ Video best practices
Design, implement and maintain optimized and streamlined post-production workflows
Mentor and manage at least one full time video editor and freelance editors and other post-production roles as required
Mentor and train producer/editors as needed, for consistency across editing
Maintain in-depth knowledge of evolving editing software, file formats and archival practices
Manage and review all final deliverables, ensuring they meet creative and technical standards for all platforms
Be proactive and solution-oriented to deal with challenges and setbacks, maintaining active lines of communication for each project
Be up to speed on the latest media techniques, technologies and software
You Have At least 8 years of experience editing videos of all lengths and structures
Extensive professional experience in post-production, preferably with some supervisory experience
Prior experience with every aspect of video production from start to finish, under tight deadlines, working with teams across news, series, and graphics and design
Technical strength in color-grading and audio mix; strong finishing skills incorporating motion graphics and on-line mastering of deliverables
Excellent taste in choosing music to score pieces where required
Strong mentorship and leadership skills to guide a creative team
Ability to manage complex workflows and a large amount of assets
Impeccable eye for detail and cinematic storytelling with a clear sense of pacing in an edit
Deep understanding and interest in The Journal’s core coverage areas
Some prior documentary and series experience
Clear communication skills with exceptional written and collaboration abilities
Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
