Overview Position: Adjunct Faculty - Music Technology (MUSC 1515) at Salt Lake Community College. This is a pooled, semester-by-semester position with no guaranteed continued employment. The course typically serves as an introductory step in relevant degree pathways and is a prerequisite for subsequent courses. The position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. All employees are expected to maintain a permanent residence within the State of Utah as a condition of employment. New employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of their start date.
Location: On-site campus presence is expected to encourage in-person relationships and meaningful learning experiences unless approved for online-only courses.
As an Adjunct Faculty member, you are employed on a contract-to-contract basis, with no guaranteed future employment. You may be terminated at-will at any time. Maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.
This position is subject to a successful completion of a criminal background check.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Teach in-person courses in beginning and intermediate music production.
Instruct students in the use of music technologies, including microphones, MIDI, and digital audio.
Teach music production using one or more standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), such as Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper, etc.
Offer timely, constructive feedback on assignments and return graded work in accordance with department standards.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance and grades for institutional and financial aid purposes.
Inform students of their academic progress regularly and submit final grades by published deadlines.
Respond to student inquiries and concerns promptly, typically within 1–2 business days.
Provide ADA accommodations as requested and enforce FERPA guidelines.
Adhere to all college policies, with particular attention to professional interactions and instructional responsibilities.
Maintain professional etiquette and appearance in all communications and interactions with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
Prepare and submit incident reports for inappropriate student behavior per the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
Complete required employee trainings and maintain collegial behavior within the department and institution.
Participate in departmental meetings, juries, and collaborative activities to support the music program and student success.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficiency in at least one DAW (Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper).
Strong knowledge of digital music production, including recording, mixing, and mastering.
Ability to teach technical and creative aspects of music production in an engaging and accessible way.
Effective communication with a diverse range of people and abilities to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with diverse student, faculty, and staff populations in a community college setting, including those with disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Demonstrated ability to teach music-related subjects, such as audio production, music mixing, ensembles, or introductory courses.
Experience with one or more industry-standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs).
Experience working in workstation environments (Pro Tools, Cubase, Ableton, Reaper, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Music, music technology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Experience teaching at the college/university level.
Familiarity with Dante AV0IP and MIDI systems.
Experience leading bands, ensembles, or educational music groups; relevant industry experience.
Experience with curriculum development and online teaching platforms.
Producer experience in a recording studio environment.
Up-to-date knowledge of current industry practices.
