Summary:

We are looking for an Arts and Community Coordinator to provide content for the Vacaville Reporter and the Vallejo Times-Herald, for both print publications and our websites. This position will do feature and entertainment writing of interest to our the Solano County communities, along with some general news reporting.

What you will do:
  • Primary responsibility is reporting at least two byline stories per day
  • Working cooperatively with our small team of journalists
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with subject matter experts to gather unique insights and material for compelling stories
  • Generate original feature ideas and develop comprehensive pitches that align with the publication's voice, brand, and target audience
  • Track industry trends and cultural shifts to ensure timely and relevant coverage of emerging artists, shows, media, and social phenomena
  • Collaborate closely with editors and photographers to revise drafts, verify facts, and ensure that visual elements enhance the overall narrative quality
  • Adapt content for various platforms (print, web, social media) to maximize audience reach and engagement
What you will bring:
  • Journalism - and specifically feature writing - experience, with AP style knowledge and the ability to quickly compile accurate reporting on a variety of topics
  • Spelling and grammar skills required
  • Experience working with various technologies for the position including PC laptops, digital cameras and recording equipment
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; experience in a professional journalism newsroom preferred
Benefits and Compensation:

The hourly range is $17.00 - $18.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility). Conditions of Employment:

  • Travel - This position entails occasional driving for work assignments, in-person training sessions and/or meetings. The employee will be responsible for transporting themselves between different sites as needed
  • Must be available for shift work. May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours
