Overview The Maryland Department of Labor, (MD Labor), Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of UI Professional II. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement.

Main Purpose of Job Providing high-quality customer service. The employee is responsible for explaining and interpreting the rules and regulations of the Unemployment Insurance Program to external customers. This person is also responsible for providing accurate information to assist employers meet their filing obligations. This position requires an employee to contact employers via phone and written communication to collect outstanding UI debt. An employee in this classification does not supervise or lead other positions.
Position Duties MAKE OUTBOUND CALLS TO EMPLOYERS TO COLLECT UI DEBT.
NEGOTIATE PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS TO COLLECT UI DEBT.
GATHER TAX AND WAGE INFORMATION FROM EMPLOYERS TO ESTABLISH LIABILITY UNDER MARYLAND UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE LAW.
ASSIST WITH REVIEW AND PROCESS CORRESPONDENCE THAT COMES FROM THE USPS.
EXPLAIN STATE UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE LAWS, RULES AND REGULATIONS TO EMPLOYERS AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVES.
ASSIST WITH INCOMING TELEPHONE CALLS AND PROVIDE ACCURATE INFORMATION TO EMPLOYERS.
Minimum Qualifications Experience: Four years and six months to five years of experience in a public or private agency rendering and/or determining eligibility for a Human Service Program or other programs.
Notes Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and six months to one year of experience in a public or private agency rendering and/or determining eligibility for a Human Service Program or other programs for the required experience.
Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications:
Experience with customer service.
Experience performing clerical duties and data entry.
Experience with Google and Microsoft Suites.
Experience working in a call center.
Experience with collections.
Special Requirements Personnel employed in this classification will have access to federal tax information and must undergo a state and FBI criminal background check as a condition of employment.
All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (MD Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to MD Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
