Overview Penn State's Office of Strategic Communications—the University's central public relations and marketing division—seeks an innovative Lead Visual Content Specialist (Principal Professional level) to join its award-winning creative team and contribute to the creative expression of the Penn State brand. The successful candidate will lead the visual content team, manage the video production process from concept to completion, and collaborate with stakeholders across academic, administrative, and research units to produce multimedia content that inspires audiences and supports institutional priorities.
Due to in-person requirements, this position is expected to be in the office five days a week and will require occasional evening and weekend hours.

Position Details The role involves day-to-day leadership of the visual content team and proactive management of video production from conception to completion, ensuring on-brand, on-trend creative solutions that strengthen the Penn State brand and align with the University's strategic priorities.
Responsibilities Understand brand-level goals and translate them into effective, on-brand creative solutions.
Lead the visual content team and manage resources to deliver compelling, differentiating multimedia content.
Supervise staff and manage the team’s workloads.
Research and develop content, brainstorm scripts, establish production schedules, conduct interviews, direct shoots, and edit components into cohesive brand storytelling products.
Scan internal and external environments to identify opportunities to elevate the Penn State brand through storytelling.
Communicate clearly with team members, leadership, and internal/external stakeholders.
Remain knowledgeable about industry trends, technology advancements, and tools in visual storytelling.
Preferred Skills and Experience The ideal candidate will:
Have expert-level understanding of the film and video-production process (pre-production, production, post-production).
Experience planning, supporting, and creating high-quality productions.
Advanced knowledge of industry standards for content production.
Understand trends in production, editing, motion design, including colorization and AI-assisted production optimization.
Be able to interpret and create detailed communications, including executive summaries and technical documents.
Be a collaborative, organized leader able to manage multiple priorities.
Experience with directing crews and video productions, script writing, graphic design, motion design, and AI image generation for concepting are highly desired but not required.
Minimum Education, Work Experience & Certifications Bachelor’s Degree + 8+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certifications: None.

Salary & Benefits Salary range: $68,200.00 – $102,300.00.
