Overview Academic Medicine Writing Project Manager. The Family Physicians Inquiries Network (FPIN) is a nationally recognized nonprofit, scholarship-based learning network and medical society that connects and supports primary care clinicians through evidence-based education, professional development, and collaboration. The role begins at the coordinator level with a clear path to an elevated project leadership role within the first year. This is an administrative support role serving as the key contact for important research writing projects and coordinating complex editorial workflows to ensure a smooth experience for physician editors and authors.
The ideal candidate loves details, to-do lists, and deadlines, but also enjoys building relationships, providing excellent service, and occasionally leading meetings.
What You Will Do
Coordinate all stages of manuscript processing and editorial workflows
Provide prompt, courteous, and solutions-focused support to authors, editors, and members
Maintain accurate and meticulous spreadsheets, organize email correspondence, and follow up consistently
Train and guide physicians on processes and protocols to improve efficiency
Track deadlines and ensure quality standards are met
Use multiple technology platforms expertly
Participate in and occasionally lead Zoom calls and project discussions
Travel occasionally for conferences and events (up to approximately 15 nights per year)
What We Are Looking For
Education: Bachelor’s degree (required) in healthcare administration, public health, journalism, or related field
Work History: Demonstrated stability in prior roles; long-term tenure preferred
Experience: Minimum three years of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use advanced features of Outlook, Word (including Track Changes), SharePoint, PowerPoint, Basecamp, Zoom, Google Docs, and AI platforms
Strong follow-up, tracking, and organizational skills
Diplomatic and clear communicator who is personable and comfortable on Zoom
Experience teaching or training others in processes and protocols
Attributes: Detail-oriented, highly organized, loves spreadsheets, to-do lists, and timelines; tech-savvy and resourceful; capable of switching gears between detail work and discussion; comfortable with occasional overnight travel
Performance Metrics
Membership surveys assessing satisfaction with the writing process
Timeliness and accuracy of manuscript movement through the editorial process
Schedule and Location
Full-time 40 hours per week (a similar part-time position is also available)
Hybrid: In office in Columbia, MO on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; may work from home remotely most Mondays and Fridays
Pay and Benefits
Salary: $46k to $56k annually. Starting salary is commensurate with proven experience, references, and potentially proficiency testing.
Paid Holidays: Immediate
Time Off: 88 hours of wellness time after 90 days, and one week of vacation after 90 days (vacation increases with years of service)
Health: Health Reimbursement Arrangement or Health Insurance Stipend available after 120 days
401(k): Automatic 3 percent salary contribution after one year
