Assistant Professor, Computational Communication
Position: Assistant Professor, Computational Communication at University of Central Florida (UCF). The posting is for a nine‑month, tenure‑earning appointment beginning August 2026 in the Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM).
Overview
NSCM is an interdisciplinary program at UCF’s College of Sciences that offers undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. programs in communication and media. The School is known for excellence in research, teaching, and service. UCF is a large, research‑active institution with more than 70,000 students and a strong focus on STEM and interdisciplinary study.
Responsibilities
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the NSCM undergraduate programs (Communication, Advertising/Public Relations, Communication M.A., & Strategic Communication Ph.D.) and the Communication M.A. program, offering both face‑to‑face and online modalities.
- Contribute to the academic life of the School through committee service, faculty meetings, graduations, and assessment of student learning.
- Engage in external service with academic bodies and professional organizations.
- Conduct high‑quality research, teaching, and service that promote an inclusive and thriving academic community.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Communication or a related field from an accredited institution by the start of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in advertising, public relations, computational methods, quantitative methods, and related communication subjects.
- Experience with semantic‑network analysis, social‑network analysis, data analytics, data visualization, machine learning, or natural language processing.
- Proficiency in Python or R for integrating computational social science methods into courses.
- Theory‑driven, empirical communication research record with demonstrated success and potential for external funding.
- Experience mentoring master’s and doctoral students.
