The Fresno State Library seeks an innovative, flexible, and public service-oriented individual to join our faculty in developing and providing user‑focused library services that support teaching, research, and student success. This full‑time, tenure‑track librarian will serve as the subject librarian for the Kremen School of Education and Human Development. This position will provide an excellent opportunity for professional growth and for those interested in collaborating to develop services to meet the needs of a diverse campus community.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues in developing and providing a broad range of services and activities to designated departments
  • Teach information literacy concepts to undergraduates and graduate students
  • Design and create outreach and instructional materials
  • Provide in‑person and online research assistance in a range of disciplines
  • Participate in collection management
  • Promote knowledge of scholarly communication and Fresno State's digital repository

Qualifications

Required Education

  1. An MLS from an ALA accredited library school/institution (or equivalent) is required.
  2. Applicants nearing completion of the MLS degree may be considered; however, degree must be completed prior to hire date. Anticipated start date is Spring/Early Summer 2026.

Required Experience

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with instruction, information literacy, and student learning outcomes.
  2. Documentation of strong public service orientation, and knowledge of or experience with reference service and research consultation.
  3. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with trends in librarianship and scholarly communication.

Preferred Experience

  1. Experience working in an academic library environment.
  2. Subject knowledge of or experience in K-12 teaching and/or educational leadership and/or administration.
  3. Experience with design and delivery of instruction using a range of modalities, approaches, and technologies, for undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  4. Proficiency in multiple modes of reference service and research consultation including in‑person, chat, and phone/video conferencing.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a complex, changing environment.
  6. Experience with outreach programs and services.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and scholarship.

About the Fresno State Library

The Fresno State Library, staffed by over 50 professionals and paraprofessionals, serves a diverse community of over 24,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate level. The Library contains over 1 million print volumes and subscribes to over 250 databases and electronic resource packages. The Library utilizes a liaison structure, with librarians providing instruction, collection development, and reference services to designated colleges. Additionally, the Library connects with the wider Fresno and Central Valley communities through a variety of outreach efforts.

Benefits and Compensation

Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated hiring range is $7,127–$7,500 per month for Assistant Professor (12 monthly payments per academic year). As a member of the 23‑campus CSU System, we offer an extremely competitive benefits package.
