Overview Beacons School Success Lead - St. Paul Music Academy (Education) The YMCA is seeking a dedicated Beacons School Success Lead with a passion for youth development to lead staff and serve as a mentor, role model, and educator within the YMCA Beacons network, creating a fun and inclusive environment while planning lessons and leading group activities. Specialized skills (e.g., dance, music, art, sports) are welcome but not required. 15-20 hours/week, Monday-Thursday after school. Located within St. Paul Music Academy. The salary for this position is $17.00 hourly. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining salary; therefore base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status. Beacons is a collaborative community initiative providing after-school and summer care for young people in grades K-12. Through Beacons, the YMCA of the North helps provide high-quality educational, recreational, and leadership development activities and eliminate barriers to participation for all youth. Responsibilities Plan, develop and implement enrichment curriculum and program activities with a group of young people. Provide work direction to program staff and volunteers while on duty. Evaluate the program on a continuous basis and recommend needed changes to the Beacons School Success Sr. Coordinator and/or Program Director. Ensure that the center and classroom spaces are kept clean and organized. Perform administrative activities to support the program, including collecting daily attendance. Assist in the promotion of the program including recruiting young people to program, communication to families and school staff. Relationships This position reports directly to the Sr. Coordinator or Program Director. The incumbent interacts with participants, parents, staff, school employees and the community. Qualifications Required: Minimum age of 18. Experience and/or education in youth studies, child development, human relations, communication, or recreational programs. Certifications required within 30 days of hire: Adult and child CPR or CPR/PR; First Aid; and AED. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and facilitate youth development programming. Excellent interpersonal communications and mediation skills. Willingness to work with people of diverse populations. Demonstrated commitment to working with school age children in an enrichment setting. Preferred: Minimum 6 months experience working with school-aged youth. Degree in education, recreation or field related to child care. Supervisory/management experience. Multilingual. Knowledge of Trauma Informed and Youth Development best practices. Work Conditions Ability to move throughout a school building regularly throughout the day. Must be able to actively participate in youth games/activities. Work environments range from quiet work areas to busy, noisy indoor and outdoor spaces with several groups talking amongst themselves concurrently. May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as part of the environment. Perform all physical aspects of the position, including moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations.
