General Description Of Duties
Under direction, the purpose of the position is to provide technical, operations, maintenance, and training support for municipal audio communications equipment. Employees in this classification perform at entry level and are responsible for assisting users with radios services. Work includes providing emergency support as needed for communication hardware and software.
Essential Job Functions
- Evaluates network performance and performance capacity regarding bi-directional amplifiers (BDA) and distributed antenna systems (DAS).
 - Coordinates with partner agencies/jurisdictions and customers throughout the radio frequency (RF) testing and DAS system assessment processes.
 - Performs routine repairs, programming, tuning and general maintenance of communications equipment and machinery.
 - Provides emergency support as needed for communication hardware and software; assists in diagnostics.
 - Transports materials and equipment to, from, and within storage and operating areas.
 - Performs general inventory work stocking materials and equipment in designated areas.
 - Assists in the resolution of any Public Safety Communications Center radio issue.
 - Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.
 
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience: High school diploma
Experience: Two (2) years work experience in electronics, telecommunications, or Information Technologies, specific to the essential job functions. Preferred experience with design, engineering, installation, maintenance, testing, and/or repair of radio systems and associated equipment.
Miscellaneous
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
 - Must complete Distributed Antenna Systems Technician (DAS) certification within 1 year of hire.
 
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- General knowledge of the principles and practices of radio communications and telecommunications.
 - General knowledge of the principles and practices of the maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment.
 - Ability to tune and program radio equipment.
 - Ability to test for and repair defects in communication equipment.
 - Ability to keep records and make reports.
 - Ability to work independently in an office and field environment.
 - Skill in interpersonal and leadership communications; ability to communicate professionally verbally and in writing.
 - Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with all levels of management, employees, other departments, officials, and the public; skill in the principles and techniques of customer service.
 - Ability to access, operate, and maintain various software applications.
 - Ability to operate basic office equipment e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
 - Ability to read, update, and maintain various records and files.
 
Physical Demand Requirements
Physical Demand: Light
- 20 pounds maximum lifting.
 - Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 10 lbs.
 - If less lifting involved will require significant walking/standing may be required.
 - If mostly sitting is involved will require push/pull on arm or leg controls.
 - Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
 - Good eyesight for production or safety of self and others.
 - Physical agility is required in kneeling, bending, stooping, and reaching.
 - Required to have clear vision at distances of 20 inches or less.
