Overview

The Twelfth Judicial Circuit is seeking an Official Court Reporter to be based in Sarasota County. The position records felony court proceedings stenographically, provides real‑time to judges, edits and proofs transcripts, and submits statistical reports. The role is supervised by the Court Reporting Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Records court proceedings using a Stenograph Diamante and Case Catalyst software.
  • Reads back segments of proceedings from stenographic notes or real‑time translation.
  • Transcribes and edits stenographic or real‑time notes to comply with applicable standards.
  • Proofreads transcripts to verify correct spelling of names, places, medical, scientific, and legal terms; researches information as required.
  • Prints, binds, backs up, and archives certified completed transcripts.
  • Archives digital stenographic notes and maintains an accurate dictionary and logs of each day’s proceedings.
  • Travels to courthouses within the circuit as required.
  • Completes and submits statistical reports to designated personnel.

Qualifications

Education and Training
An associate’s degree or equivalent of two years of court reporting education is required. A valid Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certificate or higher is required. Real‑time reporter capability is required; real‑time certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to report stenographically using Case Catalyst software and real‑time technology.
• Ability to hook up and troubleshoot cables for real‑time technology.
• Ability to record testimony at the required speed and accuracy.
• Ability to edit, translate, proofread, and verify spelling of names, places, and terms.
• Ability to print, bind, back up, and archive transcripts and notes.
• Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective relationships with supervisors, co‑workers, and the public.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, automated environment with many interruptions.
• Computer skills: proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, internet search, and learning new software.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary
$6,143.06 monthly (non‑negotiable). State employees are paid on the last workday of each month.
