Cell Reports is a leading open-access journal from Cell Press. We publish cutting edge and impactful work across all of biology.

About the Role

We are looking for a Deputy Editor to help shape the future of Cell Reports. You will support the Editor-in-Chief, manage a team of editors, and contribute to journal strategy. You will also engage with the scientific community, oversee peer review, and help develop editorial content. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in any area related to the topics that Cell Reports covers. Candidates should have extensive editorial experience, strong communication skills, with an interest in managing a team, engaging with the scientific community, and the ability to work well in diverse team settings.

Responsibilities

• Supporting the Editor‑in‑Chief and managing scientific editors
• Contributing to journal strategy and development
• Overseeing peer review and editorial decisions
• Commissioning and editing Reviews and Perspectives
• Building relationships with researchers and institutions
• Representing the journal at conferences and events
• Improving editorial workflows and author experience

Requirements

• Have a Ph.D. in a relevant field of biology
• Have at least 5 years of editorial experience
• Experience managing or mentoring others is a plus
• Display exceptional communication and collaboration skills
• Able to evaluate a wide range of scientific topics
• Have interest in science communication and publishing trends
• Are comfortable working independently and in diverse teams
• Can travel for conferences and business-based needs, international and domestic

U.S. National Base Pay Range: $84,900 - $141,600. Geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates. This job is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
