Tarrant County Service Journalism Reporter

McClatchy Media is looking for a collaborative, audience-focused service journalism reporter to join our expanding coverage in Tarrant County, Texas, with a focus on hyperlocal storytelling that informs, connects, and empowers our community.

Responsibilities

  • Use social listening tools and engagement platforms to surface real-time reader questions and needs.
  • Report and write timely, practical stories that help readers navigate life in North Texas.
  • Build and manage a library of evergreen, search-optimized content.
  • Approach AI as a partner in journalism, using tools for research, story discovery, workflow efficiency and audience analysis while upholding editorial integrity.
  • Help expand reach to diverse, multilingual audiences and broaden service to the community.

Qualifications

  • Strong reporting, lively writing, and excellent news judgment.
  • Deep understanding of a digital-first, audience-forward approach to journalism.
  • Ability to juggle quick-turn enterprise and service-driven stories.
  • Enthusiasm for using AI-powered tools responsibly to improve efficiency, coverage, and innovation.
  • Commitment to accurate, ethical journalism and adherence to professional reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in SEO, social media engagement, and digital publishing tools.
  • Interest in exploring alternative formats (guides, explainers, newsletters, FAQs) and multimedia storytelling.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and give and receive feedback.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish preferred.

Job Requirements

  • Day shift position; may include evening and weekend work as needed.
  • Hybrid schedule: working from home and from the Fort Worth co-working location, with expectation to gather news in served communities.
  • Proficiency with AP style, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
