General Statement of Duties

The work involves performing responsible and/or difficult paraprofessional library duties and office procedures. A supervisor defines the objectives, priorities and deadlines of work, but the incumbent plans and carries out successive steps and resolves problems independently. The incumbent uses judgment in interpreting and adapting guidelines to specific cases or problems. Work is performed under general supervision.

Essential Duties

  • Assists in special projects, inventories, opening collections, etc.
  • Assists with copy cataloging of print and nonprint materials using OCLC in an online, integrated library system environment
  • Assists with supporting community partnerships and programs
  • Assists with the Book Preview materials
  • Communicates regularly with library staff and vendors
  • Inspects materials for defects and accuracy and verifies that specifications are in accordance with contract
  • Logs in orders and places on shelves for cataloging
  • Maintains records on submitted and received orders from vendors
  • Monitors school library accounts to keep library staff informed about their orders and accounts
  • Places orders in our Integrated Library System (ILS)
  • Process materials received from vendors
  • Property stamps and barcodes orders as needed, including orders from in-house directors and specialists
  • Receives invoices and completes order process in ILS after order is verified as complete
  • Receives materials orders through contracted vendor websites or email for non-contracted vendors from librarians
  • Reviews materials ordered to check for compliance to rules of ordering and communicates any discrepancies with library staff
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Verifies received orders against original order lists once delivered from vendors
  • Works with Library Services Financial Clerk
  • Attends work daily and is engaged in job responsibilities
  • Fills requests from schools
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Supports school librarians and school library staff
  • Understands and follows the HCPS School Library Handbook

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Must possess strong communication skills and be able to follow directions. Knowledge of Google Workplace, Oracle, and cataloging tools and experience with OCLC and integrated library systems desired.

Additional Information

This is a 260 day (12 month) position. Minimum annual starting salary for this position is $43,023.95 or based on promotion policy for internal candidates. This vacancy is open until filled.
