Primary Function: This position is responsible for assisting the Media Specialist in the operation of the school Media Center.
Reports To: Principal (with direction from the Media Specialist)
Salary Schedule: 101
Work Days: 200
Requirements
Education Level:
- High School Diploma
- An Associate's Degree
- 60 semester /90 quarter hours of college credit from an accredited organization
- Passing score on the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) Paraprofessional Assessment Test
Experience, Skill, and Certification:
- Previous work experience, preferably with children
- Computer skills, general office training
- Demonstrable ability to work with students and staff
- Good communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to perform varied and complex clerical tasks
- Work cooperatively with others
Preferred
- Ability and willingness to learn new techniques
- Capability to solve problems and work independently
- Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple duties effectively
- Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System

Essential Duties
- Under the direction of the Media and Technology Specialist, facilitate the use of media resources, technology, books, and other materials circulation for students and staff
- Operate the computerized circulation system including checking materials in and out and creating and distributing overdue fines/notices
- Assist in all phases of materials processing according to established procedures and provide basic technological support to students
- Inspect and evaluate incoming technology and make necessary level one repairs on student devices and/or enter help tickets to elevate repair
- Shelves and maintain correct order (Dewey decimal or general classification) of returned materials
- Assume responsibility for operation of the media center and supervision of students in the approved absence of the Media Specialist
- Repair print and non-print materials
- Maintain inventory of supplies and suggest items for acquisition as needed
- Assist in maintaining an orderly, neat, and attractive atmosphere in the media center
- Assist small groups of students in locating and retrieving materials, finding information, operating instructional equipment, or other activities
- Assist in the integration of technology used throughout the school
- Operate and maintain media-related equipment. Prepare work orders for broken/damaged equipment
- Assist in training volunteers
- Assist in producing, mounting, and laminating materials
- Prepare and assemble materials for classroom use
- Assist the Media Specialist with preparing and maintaining media center displays, conducting inventory of materials and equipment, for media promotions and book fairs, and other activities to include fixed asset inventory
- Perform other duties and tasks as necessary for the effectiveness of the school
Terms of Employment
Incumbents will be considered "at will." Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 200 days (190 + 10 holidays). (101) Non-exempt Revised 04-25
