Why do we need this position?
Miller Media Group is launching a news site called Godly Today.
GodlyToday.com is a new publication which will launch on December 10th, 2018—it is a collective of our publishing efforts across the above mentioned brands and their social properties. Having published thousands of pieces of content reaching millions of worldwide readers each month for the past 5 years, we are now bringing editorial efforts under one roof, called GodlyToday.com.
Candidates must have the proven ability to deliver a fresh, innovative and Jesus-filled publication to readers through management of editorial staff and freelancers. An aptitude for news and a flair for motivating writers to produce stylish and compelling magazine-length stories required.
This is a managerial position, helping supervise all 50+ writers & editors.
The Editor oversees the scope and subject matter of all editorial content in the publication. The Editor ensures that all content is factually accurate, and does not conflict with legal guidelines including libel and invasion-of-privacy laws. Works with Director of Sales/Marketing to coordinate the creation and distribution of content. Works with the Creative Director to create compelling designs and supporting graphics for content. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
The Editor will also work with the Director of Sales/Marketing to seek out new funding opportunities for the publication and for potential additional writers and personalities.
The company is based in Chicago, but virtual positioning is accepted.

Knowledge & Abilities Affinity for the unique role of our publication in the online community
Solid journalism background – strong understanding of libel and privacy law and journalistic ethics
Strong relationship building skills – ability to effectively manage staff and develop their skills; ability to partner with management and focus on common goals
Expert editing skills including ability to formulate stories, develop a diverse freelance team, coach writers and work with a variety of voices
Duties & Responsibilities Develop editorial vision, strategy, plans, and implement innovations, with the goals of improving the editorial quality and impact and increasing readership
Manage editorial processes to maintain and improve overall efficiency and productivity
Keep editorial expenses within budget
Set high standards of quality and improve the writing and editing skills of editorial staff
Ensure that there are no errors in spelling, punctuation, syntax or style in the editorial content of the publication; or supervise others who do this work
Assign and edit the feature-length story and oversee the planning, assigning and editing of the stories in the appropriate categories/columns
Manage and develop staff to ensure a high quality product
Identify and pursue ways that GodlyToday.com can increase community outreach
Identify and pursue ways that the GodlyToday.com can use its role to create positive change within our communities
Work with Creative Director to coordinate design of content and emails
Work with Director of Operations to coordinate deadlines and schedules, and resolve problems
Assist publisher in efforts to find non-traditional sources of funding for journalism, by creating and presenting proposals and explaining the firewall between funding and reporting
