Position Summary

The Expeditor is responsible for ensuring that materials, components, and work orders move efficiently through all stages of production to meet customer delivery schedules. This role coordinates between Purchasing, Production, Quality, and Shipping to identify bottlenecks, resolve delays, and maintain visibility on order status. The Expeditor serves as the key link between the shop floor and customer requirements, helping ensure on-time delivery in a high-mix contract manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Material Flow

Monitor and track work orders throughout all manufacturing stages to ensure on-time completion. Coordinate with Planning, Purchasing, and Production to expedite materials and parts needed for open jobs. Identify and escalate potential delays to management, providing alternative solutions when possible. Prioritize and reschedule jobs as needed to meet changing customer demands or material availability. Maintain accurate and real-time status updates within the ERP/MRP system. Communication & Coordination

Act as the communication bridge between departments-Production, Purchasing, Quality, and Shipping. Update internal teams on order priorities, shortages, and delivery risks. Communicate order status updates and recovery plans to customer service or account managers. Work closely with suppliers to expedite purchased components or outside processing (plating, heat treat, etc.). Data & Documentation

Maintain accurate expediting logs, order trackers, and production status boards. Verify that all required documentation (traveler, inspection reports, certifications) is complete before shipment. Assist in root cause analysis for missed or late deliveries and participate in corrective action planning. Continuous Improvement

Recommend and support process improvements to enhance schedule reliability and visibility. Contribute to lean initiatives focused on reducing WIP, improving flow, and minimizing lead time. Support cycle count, material reconciliation, and data cleanup within ERP/MRP systems. Qualifications

Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred. 3+ years of experience in production control, expediting, scheduling, or supply chain coordination. Experience in a contract manufacturing, machining, or assembly environment preferred. Skills & Competencies

Strong understanding of manufacturing workflow and material movement. Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Excellent communication and follow-up skills across departments and vendors. Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to rapidly changing priorities. Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency. Problem-solving mindset with ability to anticipate and resolve bottlenecks. Benefits:
