Description
Paraprofessional library position, which involves performing various administrative, clerical, technical, or skilled tasks. Duties involve a variety of tasks which are performed in accordance with established Library policies, procedures, and practices, but which require the application of independent judgment, creative thinking and clerical knowledge.
Examples of Duties
Essential Position Functions:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Minimum of two (2) years related library experience. Proficient in the use of office productivity software and equipment. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work varying schedules.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to utilize a computer.
• Ability to lift and carry books and other Library materials weighing up to approximately twenty-five (25) pounds.
• Ability to set up program rooms, including, but not limited to setting up tables, chairs, and operating the movable walls.
Working Conditions:
Performs professional and administrative work in an office environment and library setting.

- May be assigned to serve as person in charge in the absence of a supervisor.
- Greets the public in a courteous and professional manner, provides general information regarding the Library and refers questions as appropriate.

- Assists patrons with checking in and checking out of library materials.
- Responds to reference and reader's advisory inquiries. .
- Demonstrates knowledge of the library collection, including basic reference and electronic resources.
- Conducts tours, assists with program rooms, p, and library programs, as needed.
- Shelves returned materials.
- Assists in preparation for opening and closing of Library.
- Demonstrates knowledge of all applicable departmental/division policies and procedures.
- Practices good communication skills with other staff and members of the public.
- Handles conflicts or disputes with tact and professionalism, maintaining a positive and equitable environment.
- Maintains appropriate statistics.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
- Assigns patrons to study rooms and monitors their usage.
- Provides instruction and assistance to patrons and staff in the use of Library equipment (e.g., computers, printers, scanners).
- Guides patrons in uploading, downloading, and managing files across multiple platforms and devices.
- Escorts patrons to relevant areas of the library and assists them in retrieving the requested materials.
- Assists in the use of online services such as eBooks, digital audiobooks, and library databases, ensuring patrons can effectively navigate and utilize these resources.
- Retrieves and processes periodicals and newspapers as assigned.
- Utilizes cloud storage services to efficiently store, edit, and share work-related documents and files.
- Performs a variety of responsibilities, including creating and maintaining library patron accounts, and checking in and out library materials.
- Supervises the emptying of book drop numerous times daily, including checking in of materials.
- Provides basic computer assistance for patrons.
- Supervise teen volunteers as needed.
- Straightens the Children's Area including bookshelves, craft area, tables, and computer area.

- Jewelry may be restricted for safety reasons, based on the position.
- Hair styles should be neat, professional, and appropriate for the workplace. Hair dye, if used, should be selected from the range of naturally occurring hair colors.
- Tattoos shall not be visible above the collar level of a crew neck tee shirt
- Tattoos on the hand shall not extend past the first knuckle, closest to the wrist. Tattoos on the palm of the hand are not permitted. One discreet tattoo in the form of a solid, single color ring, not to exceed 8 mm in width, is permitted on the wearer's ring finger (not thumb), between the first and second knuckle of the finger.
- The display of unprofessional or offensive tattoos or brands, (nudity or violence, sexually explicit or vulgar art, words, phrases, profane language, symbols to incite negative reactions, initials or acronyms that represent criminal or oppressive organizations) are strictly prohibited.
