Job Overview

USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism is hiring a Collaborative News Editor to lead an award‑winning non‑profit journalism collaborative focused on health equity. The editor will create educational programming, serve as project editor, mentor reporters at various skill levels, and lead a learning and reporting effort involving 5‑7 ethnic media outlets in California.

Responsibilities

  • Create educational programming and a learning curriculum in collaboration with participating newsrooms.

Qualifications

  • 3‑5 years in an editorial leadership role with expertise in reporting and/or editing on social welfare, equity, health, and health policy topics.
  • Demonstrated editing and project management experience.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus; cross‑platform skills are desirable.
  • Experience in the ethnic media sector and familiarity with the California health policy landscape are especially encouraged.

Salary and Benefits

The annual salary range is $87,000‑$91,000. USC offers full health benefits for staff and families, eligibility for retirement plans, tuition benefits, and a central Los Angeles location with convenient transit options.

About the USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism

The Center defines health broadly, supporting investigative and explanatory journalism on topics ranging from the unequal impacts of urban design to climate change, extreme heat, flooding, and environmental burdens of industry. It offers fellowships and symposia, hosting news collaboratives for more than a decade and currently in the second year of its Ethnic Media Collaborative, which brings together eight outlets serving Black, Latino, Chinese, and Vietnamese audiences in California.
