Position Duties
- Provides EMS Communications service to EMS field and hospital personnel.
- Coordinated medevac helicopter activity including calls requesting service.
- Assigning and dispatching appropriate aircraft.
- Monitoring aircraft for flight safety and notifying hospitals.
- Answers calls requesting medevac helicopter transport.
- Monitors weather conditions and other factors related to flight safety.
- Monitors helicopter tracking tools for flight safety.
- Answers calls from EMS field personnel requiring communications with hospitals for notification or medical direction.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- Experience: One year of experience at an Emergency Communication System as an operator or from the field as a pre-hospital clinician.
- Experience can include work as a licensed Emergency Medical Technician (or above) or Emergency Medical Dispatcher.
- Candidates may substitute additional experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Emergency Communications or Management classifications or Emergency Communications or Management specialty codes in the Emergency Management field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience answering calls requesting medevac helicopter transport.
- Experience answering calls from EMS field personnel requiring communications with hospitals for notification or medical direction.
Licenses, Registrations and Certifications
1. Preferred certification for candidates applying for positions in this classification is an Emergency Medical Technician certificate or above.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
Special Requirements
1. Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
