Position Overview

As a Creative Development Lead for the Romantasy vertical within the US Creative Development team, you’ll be part of the group driving our next phase of content evolution.

Your mission? Use your unique mix of creative instincts and analytical thinking to adapt our slate of titles into best-in-class audio shows that excite audiences and help Pocket FM achieve its ambitious goals.

Why You

You’re not just a talented creative development executive—you’re a cartographer of story. You can analyze and deconstruct storytelling elements across formats to create compelling entertainment experiences.

You have:

  • A love for Romantasy and deep knowledge of the tropes, themes, and fandoms that define the genre in the US and globally.
  • A proven track record of working with writers to develop successful stories (ideally in the web fiction space).
  • A strong network of writers you’ve previously collaborated with.

You combine strong creative instincts with a data-driven mindset, thrive in fast-paced environments, and bring conviction to your content decisions. Experience adapting foreign IP for the US market is a major plus.

Responsibilities

1. Show Adaptation, Production, and Launch

  • Develop creative strategies and adaptation plans that align with US sensibilities while engaging the existing fanbase.
  • Manage projects from pre-production through post-launch, ensuring consistency, quality, and timeliness.
  • Provide in-depth notes and creative feedback on scripts and audio assets to ensure excellence.
  • Oversee marketing and launch plans, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders for a successful debut.
  • Act as the internal advocate and expert for each show, evangelizing its potential to Pocket FM audiences.

2. Pre- and Post-Launch Planning & Optimization

  • Work cross-functionally with creative, production, marketing, product, and growth teams to maximize performance.
  • Create release schedules and launch strategies optimized for audience retention and engagement.
  • Monitor show performance, analyze insights, and adjust strategies to drive success.

3. Collaboration & Cross-Functional Communication

  • Collaborate across departments to ensure a unified understanding of each show’s creative and audience direction.
  • Provide concise creative briefs and updates to internal teams and leadership.
  • Act as subject matter expert to inform business and technical strategy initiatives related to audience and content.
  • Support the Head of Creative Development and Genre Head in shaping content strategy, goals, and objectives.
  • Help define future US commissioning strategies based on performance data and market trends.
  • Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, verticals, and competitive insights.
  • Develop a deep understanding of target audiences to guide creative and strategic decision-making.

Qualifications

  • 6–8 years of experience in creative development, ideally within audio, streaming/OTT, or web fiction platforms (e.g., Webnovel, Royal Road, ReelShorts, DramaBox).
  • Proven project management experience, working with writers, actors, and production teams to deliver on time and within budget.
  • Strong domain knowledge of the Romantasy genre and familiarity with web fiction audiences globally.
  • Experience adapting foreign IP for the US market is a significant advantage.
  • Comfort using data and research to inform creative decisions.
  • Deep understanding of media trends, audience behavior, and market dynamics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment with a strong bias toward action.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Film/TV, Media, Screenwriting, or a related field.
