Base Pay Range

$23.00/hr - $25.00/hr

Position Summary

The Multimedia Journalist will conduct research, write, and report news for GV Wire and other publications as needed. The role develops stories on a variety of topics with local, regional, and national appeal, including politics, economy, environment, social issues, lifestyle, and human-interest stories.

Essential Functions

  • Strong AP style writing and detailed editing.
  • Research, interview, and attend events to gather news facts.
  • Interview people in diverse circumstances.
  • Check reference materials to obtain relevant facts.
  • Build contacts to maintain a news flow, including local government, community groups, and press officers.
  • Seek out and investigate stories via contacts, press releases, and other media.
  • Attend news conferences and city council meetings and ask questions.
  • Stay informed on current events and react to breaking news stories on the company’s behalf as necessary.
  • Work closely with a marketing team, including photographers and editors.
  • Produce concise and accurate copy according to approved style guidelines and meet strict deadlines.
  • Write short fillers to entertain and research and write longer feature articles, sometimes for external publications.
  • Create and upload news content for the website, including attaching images and streaming video.
  • Utilize social media reporting or real-time blogging when covering important events.
  • Familiarity with key local players, including elected officials, business leaders, and notable community figures.
  • Use Adobe Creative Suite or other software for video editing and to create graphics, charts, collages, and other images that illustrate concepts for stories.

  • Video technology including videography and editing skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of multimedia journalism experience.
  • College degree in journalism, political science, or related degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in shooting, writing, editing and on‑air presentation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced and deadline‑driven environment.
  • Valid California driver’s license and auto insurance.
