McClatchy Media is seeking a service journalism reporter to join the Myrtle Beach Sun News newsroom. The reporter will be based in Myrtle Beach and will contribute to local and regional news coverage, focusing on utility journalism that helps readers navigate day‑to‑day life.

Responsibilities

• Pitch stories that resonate with readers across the region.
• Report and write stories quickly in user‑friendly formats.
• Find community questions and provide accurate answers.
• Collaborate with other journalists on major news events and local happenings.
• Demonstrate versatility, initiative, and SEO savvy.
• Work in a team environment.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of reporting or writing experience.
• A college degree or work equivalent.
• Strong reporting and writing skills with the ability to identify stories that matter to readers.
• Flexibility and speed in writing to respond to evolving news events.
• Excellent news judgment and journalism ethics.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• A willingness to cover a variety of topics.
• A passion for utility journalism that helps readers in their daily lives.
• Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance required.

Nice to Have

• Community engagement and audience‑centered reporting experience.
• Multimedia storytelling skills, including vertical video.
• Familiarity with Google Trends, social media platforms, public records requests, and data.
• Metrics and analytics tracking experience.
• Innovation and learning with new skills and technologies, especially AI.
