This is a leave replacement position for the remainder of the 25/26 school year. This position serves at all elementary schools and supports the classified librarians at each school.
Salary listed is the 1.0 FTE rate and will bepro-rated based on actual FTE.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Librarian provides a library program that enhances student achievement and is integral to the school district’s various curricula and instructional programs. Works collaboratively with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction and support student learning. To instill of a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information. Promote reading and literacy, provide information literacy instruction, and enhance student learning through supporting the overall school curricula.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leader
- Serves on decision-making teams in the school
- Takes an active role in school improvement activities
- Collaborates with general education teachers to analyze student data (i.e. Front Row, Interim Block Assessments, Aimsweb, SBAC, etc.) and support student achievement in various subjects through the school library program
- Maintains frequent and timely communication with stakeholders through the school and library website, social media (Twitter, etc.), parent newsletters, email, and other formats
- Remain current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to elementary school library programs
Instructional Partner
- Collaborating with teachers to design and teach engaging inquiry and learning experiences that incorporate all aspects of literacy
- Collaboratively planning learning experiences across subject matters and providing group and individual instruction where appropriate
- Empower students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information
- Joining with teachers and others to plan and implement meaningful experiences that will promote a love of reading and lifelong learning
Information Specialist
- Provides expertise in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats
- Provides expertise in the ethical use of information
- Ensures equitable access and responsible use of information by developing and maintaining a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and the teaching styles and instructional strategies used within the school
- Cooperating and networking with other libraries, librarians, and agencies to provide access to resources outside the school
- Understanding copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property, and assisting users with their understanding and observance of the same
Program Administrator
- Uses strategic planning for the continuous improvement of the school library program
- Ensures the school library program goals and objectives are aligned with school and district long-range strategic plans
- Preparing and administering the school library program budget to support specific program goals
- Creating and maintaining in the school library a teaching and learning environment that is inviting, safe, flexible, and conducive to student learning
- Arranging the flexible scheduling of the library to provide student access during lunch and/or recess times

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree; academic preparation for or experience in working with a diverse student population.
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate;Library endorsement highly desirable.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Leadership and organizational qualities which include the ability to facilitate teams, communicate collaboratively, train and lead others, and coordinate data.
- Knowledge of: Subject areas appropriate to assignment; effective behavior management techniques; effective instructional techniques; rules and procedures for student safety.
- Skill in: Proficiency in reading, writing, and oral communications; effective communication with parents or guardians in a diverse community; designing and implementing lesson plans for students having a wide range of achievement.
- Ability to: Deal with students in a positive and confident manner; be fair and consistent when working with a diverse student population; adapt to change and remain flexible; organize activities; manage student behavior; use good judgment to maintain a safe learning environment; provide instruction and demonstrate techniques; use necessary equipment, computers and software; establish and maintain effective, positive working relationships with students, parents or guardians, staff and administrators.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Required to deal with a wide range of student achievement and behavior; required to remain flexible to meet students immediate needs; required to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize; may experience frequent interruptions; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students; potentially exposed to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students; in some positions the necessary and appropriate instructional methods may require specific positions and movements, and sufficient stamina and exertions, to demonstrate techniques properly for student safety, or to conduct or direct students; in some positions precautions may need to be taken to prevent or lessen exposure of self and/or students to various materials, fumes, equipment, cutting edges or hot surfaces.
