Position Highlights

The Supervisor, Patient Library, is responsible for the daily operations and staffing of the Patient Library & Welcome Center at MCC and the library portion of the Patient and Family Center at MKC. The Supervisor provides leadership, oversight, direction, and guidance in the development, implementation and monitoring of all virtual and in-person educational programming provided by the patient libraries for patients and families. In collaboration with the Patient and Family Advisory Program (PFAP) manager, the Supervisor supports the FPAP and the patient and family advisor experience.

Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree, 2 years project leadership experience, experience in oncology, social work or psychology.
  • Highly honed interpersonal communication skills.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate how advisors are responding to their experiences while peer visiting.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess advisors’ state of mind and to recognize when they need peer support or further assessment.
  • Ability to understand group dynamics.
  • Crisis intervention skills are necessary for patients who are very sad or angry so they can triage appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and supervisory oversight for all operational and performance aspects of the patient library team.
  • Supervises the virtual and in-person educational activities of the PLWC/PFC, including special events, patient events, patient and family orientation, meet the experts, and other webinars offered through the library.
  • Oversees Patient library staff to ensure patient education materials reflect current informational trends, accurate information, an attractive format and a variety of educational approaches, including integrating emerging technologies into patient/family support education.
  • Implements patient and family-centered care initiatives.
  • Supports the patient and family advisory program.

Qualifications

Two (2) years' experience in the healthcare field related to the patient's experience is required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Business, Hospitality, Social Work, Psychology, or other relevant discipline.
  • "In lieu of" a Bachelor's degree, an Associates degree and five (5) years' patient experience are required.
  • Two years supervisory or project leadership experience is required.
  • Demonstrated verbal, written, listening, analytical, and customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office – Outlook (including calendaring), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, One Note.
  • Knowledge and sound understanding of core concepts of patient- and family-centered care.
  • Ability to relate to diverse ages, cultural and demographic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work calmly and independently with minimal supervision and make administrative decisions.
  • Demonstrate independent and proactive problem-solving skills.
