Research Analyst - Library & Research Services

We are looking for a Research Analyst to join our global Library & Research Services Team. The role provides high‑quality legal, business and public records research, training and consultation to K&L Gates lawyers and allied professionals.

Position is fully remote (may require commuting in one of K&L Gates’ operating states). Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 am‑6:00 pm Pacific Time.

Job Summary

The Research Analyst delivers research services across multiple time zones using subscription databases and government resources. Key responsibilities include conducting research, synthesizing information, preparing clear results, delivering training, and maintaining knowledge bases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal, business, and public records research using government and subscription resources, such as Lexis, Westlaw, VitalLaw, Bloomberg Law, etc.
  • Deliver high‑quality research services to lawyers and allied professionals across multiple time zones with a ticketing system.
  • Evaluate and synthesize information from a wide array of sources, verifying accuracy and ensuring cost‑effectiveness.
  • Present clear, logically organized results integrated into final work products.
  • Provide current‑awareness and litigation alerting for firm initiatives.
  • Critically engage with new technologies such as Generative AI tools when appropriate.
  • Prepare and deliver onboarding training for assigned practice groups.
  • Offer on‑demand and virtual instruction on the Library’s services and resources.
  • Actively liaise with assigned practice and industry groups.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the KnowledgeBase and other knowledge‑management resources.
  • Track and record billable research time.

Additional Duties

  • Additional research and technical tasks and projects as needed.
  • Occasional adjusted work schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Participate in professional development and stay current on technology, professional and industry developments in librarianship.

Experience & Skills Required

  • Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA‑accredited institution (or JD with relevant library experience). Preference for law library experience.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of legal and public records research methods and familiarity with research databases.
  • Strong research and professional communication skills, with critical thinking and cost‑effective analysis.
  • Outstanding customer service orientation and strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to manage multiple complex research projects.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with unscheduled interruptions.

Additional Abilities Required

  • Carry out responsibilities in an honest, ethical, and professional manner.
  • Stay informed of legal industry trends, including AI, data analytics, and emerging research technologies.
  • Interface primarily with computers in an office setting.
  • Occasional adjusted schedule for additional hours outside the set schedule.

Compensation

Salary range: $72,000 – $136,000. The specific compensation will be determined during the interview process based on experience and business needs.

In accordance with the Los Angeles Fair Chance Ordinance, San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, and the California Fair Chance Act, qualified applicants for our Los Angeles and San Francisco offices with arrest and conviction records will be considered.
