Union Square Greenmarket Publicity Manager
Base pay: $65,000 – $70,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Full-time, exempt position.
Location: Union Square Greenmarket, 100 Gold Street, Manhattan.
Schedule: 35–40 hours a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. In-person office work on Thursdays in Manhattan. Requires availability for early mornings, Saturdays, and 10‑hour market shifts.
Compensation: $65,000 – $70,000 yearly. Includes full‑time benefits: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long‑term disability, incentive savings plan, paid holidays, sick leave, PTO, commute and FSA programs. Not union eligible.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and oversee daily market programming, special events, and activations.
- Liaise with Greenmarket producers, customers, community partners, and chefs.
- Provide customer service support with knowledge, friendliness, and respect.
- Manage set‑up, break‑down, and overall presentation of the Market Information Tent and programming space.
- Manage sales and tracking of merchandise at the market.
- Manage Union Square Greenmarket social media accounts, crafting compelling content and responding to inquiries.
- Train and supervise the Publicity and Programming team and EBT Site Leads.
- Manage volunteers and interns, including training, assigning tasks, and coordinating schedules.
- Attend weekly check‑ins with the General Manager and collaborate on programming planning and outreach.
- Submit content for the market webpage and monthly producer newsletters.
- Oversee the creation of marketing materials for programming signage and handouts.
- Manage programming budget, spending, and expense reporting.
- Recruit, hire, and onboard new market staff in collaboration with operations and HR.
- Stay aware of farm, sustainability, and food industry news and attend networking events.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in farming, farmers markets, local agriculture, or food access.
- 2+ years of event programming and production experience.
- 2+ years of community outreach and engagement experience.
- 2+ years of staff management experience with a people‑centered leadership style.
- 2+ years of digital content creation and social media expertise.
- Proactive orientation with excellent time‑management skills.
- Strong communication and writing skills.
- Creative problem‑solver with judgment for on‑the‑spot decisions.
- Strong interpersonal skills, inclusive of diverse backgrounds.
- Commitment to a racially and socially just food system.
- Dispute mediation and de‑escalation skills.
- Proficiency in Google Drive, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Canva.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a box truck.
- Availability for 10‑hour market shifts, early mornings, Saturdays.
Physical Requirements:
Set‑up and/or break‑down of the Market Information Tent involves carrying weights, tents, and folding tables up to 65 lbs. Ability to stand for 10‑hour shifts and perform various labor‑intensive tasks in all weather conditions.
