About the Role
You will play a key role in shaping the future of Washington’s commercial salmon and halibut fisheries by leading field data collection efforts from commercial fishers, buyers, and dealers through Quick Reporting, ensuring timely and accurate data that directly supports harvest management decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead field data collection from commercial fishers, buyers, and dealers via Quick Reporting.
- Research and analyze commercial salmon harvest data for accuracy and completeness to produce daily/weekly catch estimate reports.
- Perform QA/QC on Quick Reported data, comparing it with catch estimate surveys and other fish ticket information.
- Beta test data collection platforms and databases; provide edits and suggestions to IT staff for system upgrades.
- Maintain Access and Web Portal databases for commercial coastal troll and Puget Sound Quick Report soft data.
- Generate in‑season catch reports for fishery biologists and managers on a daily/weekly basis.
- Assist IT and data managers with the development, design, and troubleshooting of web‑based and Microsoft Access databases.
- Correspond regularly with commercial fishers, buyers, biologists, managers, enforcement, and team members; log calls and maintain records of communications.
- Build and maintain positive rapport with key stakeholders to ensure accurate reporting prior to data entry.
Qualifications
Required:
- A bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent education/experience.
- At least one year of experience in statistics, analysis, or research, or equivalent.
Preferred:
- Two or more years of experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Customer service experience.
- Six or more months of experience in data acquisition, storage, and retrieval for databases and IT systems.
- Knowledge of Puget Sound fish life history, marine habitats, field sampling, or commercial fisheries.
