Position Overview

High Tide Theatrical seeks an experienced and resourceful Technical Director (TD) to oversee all technical aspects of production. This contracted role involves close collaboration with directors, designers, and production teams to ensure that each show’s technical elements—lighting, sound, special effects, and scenic work—are executed safely, efficiently, and artistically.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all technical elements of productions, including lighting, sound, special effects, and carpentry.
• Set up and strike lighting and sound systems for each show (blackbox configuration varies per production).
• Collaborate with directors and designers to achieve the creative vision while maintaining safety and budget constraints.
• Manage and mentor volunteer crews and technicians.
• Maintain and organize technical equipment, tools, and inventory.
• Troubleshoot technical issues during rehearsals and performances.
• Ensure compliance with safety and accessibility standards.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in technical theatre production, including lighting, sound, and basic carpentry.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a collaborative environment.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, especially when working with volunteers.
• Familiarity with blackbox theatre setups and adaptable performance spaces preferred.
• No formal degree required—experience and reliability are key.

Compensation

This is a contracted position, paid per production. Compensation is commensurate with experience and scope of work.
