State of Tennessee Job Information Opening Date/Time: 10/13/2025 12:00 AM Central Time Closing Date/Time: 11/02/2025 11:59 PM Central Time Salary (Monthly): $4,562.00 – $6,825.00 Salary (Annually): $54,744.00 – $81,900.00 Job Type: Full‑Time City, State: Nashville, TN Department: Safety and Homeland Security Overview Under direction, is responsible for radio communications system design and development work of considerable difficulty and supervisory work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. An employee in this class is responsible for designing, developing, and evaluating radio communications systems and supervises the overall maintenance and repair of communication equipment. Special Qualifications A valid vehicle operator’s license may be required for employment in some positions. Be willing to and able to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons. Be eligible to receive and maintain a security clearance in accordance with applicable agency regulations. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Have a good moral character, as determined by investigation. Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority. Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority. Supply a fingerprint sample as prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint‑based criminal history check. Not have been convicted or pleaded guilty to, or entered a plea of nolo contendere, to any felony charge or to any violation of federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor, or controlled substances. Not have been discharged under any other than honorable conditions from any branch of the United States armed forces. Pass a physical examination administered by a licensed physician that is consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act and that relates to the essential functions of the position. Pass a psychological evaluation administered by a licensed mental health professional that is consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act and that relates to the essential functions of the position. Upon appointment, successfully complete a prescribed course of instruction. Responsibilities Monitors expenditures of unit to ensure spending is within budgetary limits. Assist in long‑range budget preparations by presenting options based on present and projected needs to management. Programs and configures radio transceivers, IP routers, switches, and security/safety equipment (such as emergency lighting, cameras, and sirens) using specialized software and interface equipment. Evaluates system performance and design variables with computer and propagation software and performs radio frequency interference analysis to determine spectrum availability. Develop technical specifications for radio communication equipment and ancillary devices, including power, emissions, and electrical requirements, and create and revise radio systems drawings/diagrams detailing radio interface configuration, connections, program parameters, and punch block interconnections. Analyze potential radio communication site to judge value in communications designs by considering numerous factors. Analyze system problems and design solutions, including hardware/software changes and equipment modifications, to meet agency needs. Ensure equipment meets design specifications through testing, research, and visual inspection. Develop a long‑term replacement plan for radio communication systems by assessing technology trends, agency needs, and equipment lifecycles. Submit a Federal standardized form with site specifications, elevations, power, emissions, and tower details to obtain FCC licensure. Maintain and update radio system files, including vendor documents, system drawings, FCC licenses, and FAA authorizations. Ensure compliance of state equipment and sites with agency, state, and federal laws through inspection and measurement. Plan, develop, and manage special projects like technology upgrades, site relocations, and tower replacements for radio systems. Attend necessary technical, managerial and safety training required by agency.
