Purpose:
Provide leadership under the direction of Library Media Services to ensure that all students are effective users of ideas and information. Supervise and manage the school library/media center and programs. Provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems (21st‑century skills). Engage learners through print and digital resources to access, create, and share content and collaborate with other learners as global citizens.
Major Responsibilities
Use TEK’s/SE’s and library curriculum products, including Library Scope and Sequence, to provide group instruction and individual guidance.
Prepare strategic plans to meet School Library Programs standards and guidelines.
Participate as an educational leader and change agent in curriculum development at campus and district levels, consulting with teachers on appropriate use of materials.
Model and promote collaborative planning, cooperative teaching, and direct instruction aligned with state curriculum standards.
Model ethical use of internet and electronic resources and instruct students in information literacy.
Promote ongoing learning opportunities for students and staff in information technology and information literacy.
Supervise Media Assistant(s) and student aides; manage interruptions and multitask under pressure.
Provide instructional access to library resources through flexible scheduling of classes, small groups, and individuals.
Collect and maintain a balanced, up‑to‑date library collection aligned with student needs and district policies.
Execute library management operations: budgeting, purchasing, scheduling, maintaining facilities, supervising volunteers, grant writing, circulating, and inventory.
Encourage high circulation, including inter‑library loan.
Support academic rigor by integrating research and information processing skills.
Collaborate with the community to promote common goals.
Enforce discipline in accordance with Board policies.
Support students’ right to free selection of materials.
Promote positive attitudes toward the library and a love of reading.
Maintain awareness of student and staff information culture and incorporate into the program.
Exhibit effective communication in oral, written, and electronic forms.
Comply with federal and state laws, the State Board of Education rule, and Board policy.
Develop and coordinate ongoing evaluation of the library program.
Engage in continual self‑evaluation and professional growth.
Perform all administrative tasks that keep the library orderly and functioning.
Other duties as assigned related to the library program.
Maintain time‑and‑effort reporting as required for federally funded positions.
Ensure regular and punctual attendance at the worksite.
Work Environment The noise level is usually moderate. Travel is integral to this job. Campus‑based employees must attend the worksite in person; remote work is not an option.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a directly related field with valid Texas Library certification. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of two years as a highly qualified teacher; bilingual skills a plus.
Working knowledge of library and information science.
Demonstrated ability to instruct and manage students in a varied environment.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
Willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession.
Salary Minimum salary: $57,207.00. Median salary: $71,516.00. Salary based on the Board approved instructional salary schedule.
