The Designer I supports project managers by preparing plans, studies, and reports for public and private sector projects. This role ensures designs are accurate and meet project objectives, from drainage delineation to flood modeling. Success is measured by developing proficiency in both office and field tasks. Key Responsibilities
Apply understanding of hydrology using GIS, USGS, FIRM, and Soil Maps. Delineate drainage areas and develop maps using AutoCAD; perform hydrologic calculations for land use conditions. Interpret land use ordinances, buffer regulations, flood protection, and peak flow control requirements. Find and apply local, state, and client design standards. Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, and other CAD tools effectively. Maintain good communication and time management skills to complete tasks efficiently. Assist in storm drainage calculations and prepare construction documents as needed. Support the design of erosion control devices and stormwater management facilities per standards. Contribute to nutrient management calculations and flood analysis using HEC-RAS. Identify utility conflicts and assess impacts on designs. Apply basic grading concepts and assemble plan sheets per jurisdictional standards. Prepare comprehensive plan sets including notes and sequences, incorporating feedback. Job Skills and Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in a related field. EI certification or on the path to certification. Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work is primarily in an office setting with limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Tasks involve repetitive motions like typing and grasping. Visual acuity for computer work, ability to communicate effectively, and physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds are required. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.
