Assistant/Associate Professor (Fall 2026)
Overview
The Department of Communications at CSUF invites applications for a tenure‑track assistant or associate professor position in advertising, with an appointment to begin in fall 2026. The successful candidate will teach courses in the advertising core—principles, writing, media planning, creative strategy and execution, and campaigns—and may also teach electives or courses in high‑need areas such as digital media and graduate courses. Teaching may be in‑person, online, or hybrid during the day or evening.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Develop and teach introductory and core advertising courses.
- Develop and teach courses in areas of specialization.
- Include both in‑person and online modalities as needed.
- Engage in assessment of student learning and provide professional mentoring.
Research & Scholarship
- Produce scholarship and/or creative work commensurate with tenure requirements.
- Maintain a well‑articulated research and/or creative agenda in advertising and/or digital media.
- Participate in the life and development of the university and disciplinary communities.
Service
- Advise students and serve on departmental and university‑wide committees.
- Contribute to administrative, curricular, and accreditation activities.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in communications or a relevant discipline by the start of appointment.
- Minimum two years of professional experience in advertising.
- Ability to teach a broad range of advertising courses, including principles, writing, creative strategy, account planning, and campaign courses.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with a culturally diverse student body and faculty.
- A clear research and/or creative agenda in advertising and/or digital media.
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of successful teaching.
- Four years of professional experience in advertising.
- Demonstrated ability to lead high‑impact programs emphasizing student mentoring and professional engagement.
- Industry contacts and the capacity to expand university‑industry partnerships.
- Experience in curriculum development, accreditation self‑study, and student‑learning assessment.
- Leadership and participation in active student‑run organizations.
- Interest or experience integrating AI tools in a professional advertising environment.

Compensation
- Assistant Professor: $6,851 to $6,985 per month (12 monthly payments).
- Associate Professor: $6,825 to $14,523 per month (12 monthly payments).
