Overview
California State University, Fresno invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Art in Animation. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the Animation curriculum, advise students, and supervise student research and creative activities. The faculty member is expected to conduct independent research/creative activities; serve on school, college, and university committees; engage in community service; and attend School of Art, Design & Art History events. Specific assignments are dependent on the school’s needs and the individual’s background.
Teaching and Service
- Teach 12 teaching‑load units per semester in one or more undergraduate animation courses.
- Advisory and supervisory responsibilities for undergraduate students.
- Serve on college, school, and university committees.
- Engage in community outreach and service related to the animation field.
- Attend School of Art, Design & Art History events and meetings.
Qualifications
- Required: M.F.A. or terminal degree in Art, Animation, or related field with emphasis in Animation; OR M.A. with five years of professional animation experience.
- Applicants nearing M.F.A. completion may be considered; degree must be completed by August 1, 2026.
- Minimum of one year of university or college‑level teaching experience (teaching assistantship considered).
- Ability to teach all levels of 2D animation.
- Proficiency in Adobe Animate, Adobe After Effects, Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, and other industry software.
- Demonstrable record of active exhibition or production.
- Evidence of scholarship/creative/professional activities in the field.
- Commitment to undergraduate teaching and student success.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse students and community members.
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of fine art and industry animation processes.
- Experience in a variety of animation processes.
- Experience in media such as video art, multimedia installation, interactivity, or similar.
