Position Purpose: Reporting to the Senior Production Manager, this position is classified as IATSE. This Master Technician position is primarily responsible for providing technical support to meet complex audio and lighting requirements through a master’s level of skill in all aspects of the trade. The Hopkins Center presents and produces live arts events of all genres as well as supports College events and functions.
Note: This is a .75 FTE, nine-month position regularly scheduled to work at least forty (40) hours per week from September through May.

Required Qualifications — Education And Yrs Exp: Associates or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications — Skills, Knowledge And Abilities:
- Associate’s degree in Technical Theater or the equivalent.
- Three years of experience in technical production of the performing arts.
- Proficiency with ETC lighting console programming.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and continued qualification as an Approved Driver under Dartmouth College policy.
- Current technical knowledge of theatrical and concert lighting, carpentry, and video, including software.
- Ability to train and oversee student and Union personnel in lighting, carpentry, and video technologies.
- Basic knowledge of concert and theatrical sound equipment.
- Familiarity with transporting musical equipment safely.
- Familiarity with computers and software including Microsoft Office, Google, and cloud-based platforms.
- Membership in IATSE required upon hiring.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diplomatic and constructive manner.
- Commitment to working as part of an equitable, anti-racist, anti-biased team. Related training a plus.
- Physical requirements: bending, kneeling, climbing, standing, and working in cramped positions; lifting up to 50 pounds; exposure to electrical hazards.
- Work at heights on ladders, personnel lifts, or rigging grids.
- Driving trucks up to 28’ (non-CDL).
- Irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
- Wearing protective clothing/equipment as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre or equivalent.
- 5 years of experience in technical production for live arts.
- Proficiency with Lightwright, Vectorworks, Adobe Creative Suite.
- Proficiency with Wireless Workbench, Dante Virtual Soundcard, Logic.
- Experience with computer networking of theatrical equipment in live arts.
- Experience with online streaming and video production front-end and back-end software and services.
Responsibilities (summary):
- Sound/Audio Support: design, operation, and oversight of sound system requirements for rehearsals, performances, and events; equipment including mixing consoles, speakers, microphones, wireless coordination, and related software.
- Lighting Support: design/execute/oversee lighting instrumentation, programming, operation of lighting consoles, and working at heights.
- Video Support: installation and operation of projectors, displays, cameras; basic video editing and presentation support.
- Carpentry/Repair/Maintenance: installation and setup of scenery and instruments; manage safety and maintenance; inventory and procurement support.
- Training/Coaching/Safety: oversight of student and Union crews; safety training as needed.
