As a key member of the Cedar Crest College team, the Communications and Content Manager plays a critical role in shaping the institution's brand voice and image. Through crafting compelling written content for both print and digital channels, this talented professional helps to bring the College's message to life.

Collaborating closely with colleagues in the Marketing and Communications department, as well as across all areas of the campus, the Communications and Content Manager is responsible for delivering a consistent and impactful message throughout the year. With a focus on clear and engaging communication, this individual ensures that the College's message is heard and understood by its diverse audiences.

In addition to their content creation responsibilities, the Communications and Content Manager also plays a vital role in managing the College's PR efforts. This includes writing and distributing press releases, as well as maintaining direct contact with media outlets and the College Cabinet.

To be successful in this role, the Communications and Content Manager must possess exceptional writing skills and a proven track record of producing high-quality content for the web. They should also have experience coordinating the production of print and web materials and be comfortable working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Along with other members of the Marketing and Communications team, the Communications and Content Manager plays a vital role in growing the Cedar Crest College brand in an intentional and impactful way. Cross-departmental collaboration is critical to discover and highlight the stories and experiences that exemplify Cedar Crest College.

• Manages the College's web content updates, editorial, and social media calendars. Frequently conducts interviews with faculty, staff, alumni, and students. Identifies and writes engaging stories that highlight the College and contribute to brand awareness.

• Writes and edits a wide range of materials, including program brochures, website content, Touchpoints Alumnae Newsletter, advertisements, news stories, press releases, internal communications, event programs, admissions communications, mailings, and more.

• Supports College's public relations efforts through press releases and direct contact with media and occasionally prepares and edits talking points, speeches, and statements for College leadership.

• Reviews, copy edits, and/or proofreads written content submitted by departments across campus with attention to tone, consistency, and adherence to College's style guidelines.

• Responsible for project management and other tasks, including organizing photoshoots, managing student workers, maintaining campus calendar, serving on multiple committees for campus events, running campus communicators group, and photographing events and headshots.

Qualifications

Education and Training

Required: B.A. Exceptional writing and editing skills are required.

Preferred: Master's degree preferred; 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience directing marketing and/or communications efforts. Experience in higher education preferred. Graphic design, photography, and videography skills a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks and projects while meeting deadlines.

  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated proficiency with using various mediums as a communication and marketing tool
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Exceptional project management, organizational, and time management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Able to work independently in addition to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficient with applicable operating software and systems including: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, photo editing and Mac.
