Seeking a highly skilled UX / Usability / Human Factor Engineer to design, develop, and optimize scalable data infrastructure for AI-driven applications for a global leader in technology, innovation, and consumer electronics, specializing in smartphones, wearables, semiconductors, and digital health solutions.
This is an Onsite position in Mountain View, CA
This role bridges user research, human factors engineering, and regulatory usability documentation for both consumer health and Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) applications.
You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, writers, and software engineers to conduct user research, evaluate usability, and translate findings into actionable insights. The ideal candidate combines deep UX research expertise with a solid understanding of medical usability standards such as ISO 62366 , IEC 62304 , and ISO 14971 .
Key Responsibilities
Plan and execute usability studies across both consumer and SaMD workstreams, from early concept through validation.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Engineering, Regulatory, and Quality teams to align study goals and milestones.
Independently conduct end-to-end research activities — from stakeholder alignment, study design, and participant recruitment to data analysis, insight synthesis, and executive presentation.
Develop usability engineering documentation, including human factors validation plans, use-related risk analyses, and formative/summative testing reports in alignment with regulatory expectations.
Translate research findings into design recommendations that improve product usability, reduce risk, and enhance overall user experience.
Work within 2–4 week research sprints; manage multiple concurrent projects and report outcomes to leadership and cross-functional partners.
Support the development of mobile and wearable health applications , ensuring usability data integrity for regulatory submission.
Mentor peers on research design, data interpretation, and usability methodologies as part of a collaborative UX research team.
Core Workstreams
Consumer Health Applications:
Support design and usability for digital health and wellness features, including functions for tracking activity, heart rate, sleep, and other personal health indicators.
Medical Device / SaMD Applications:
Lead usability engineering for regulated digital health products, focusing on risk-based human factors design and formal usability documentation for submission to health authorities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors, HCI, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred .
7+ years of UX Research or Human Factors Engineering experience , ideally within digital health, SaMD, or connected consumer devices.
Proven ability to independently design, execute, and report usability studies using qualitative and quantitative methods (usability testing, contextual inquiry, interviews, surveys, etc.).
Strong understanding of usability engineering principles per ISO 62366 , and familiarity with related standards ( ISO 14971, IEC 62304, ISO 82304-1 ).
Demonstrated experience delivering research insights that influence design direction and improve user engagement and safety.
Excellent communication skills — able to clearly explain research rationale and findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with minimal supervision.
(Preferred) Experience conducting usability testing on mobile devices, wearables, and health-related applications.
(Preferred) Familiarity with FDA human factors guidance for medical device usability validation.
Work Environment
Hybrid role: Onsite Tuesday–Friday, remote on Fridays.
Part of a collaborative UX Research team reporting to the Digital Health UX Lead.
Three-round interview process including an onsite presentation round (case prompt and showcase).
