Overview
POSITION SUMMARY
The Social Media Manager works under the supervision of the Associate Director, Marketing Strategy to develop and implement social media marketing and engagement strategies that support the Museum’s mission, revenue, and audience development goals. The position also supports the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Associate Director, Digital Strategy in the development and execution of the Museum’s digital advertising campaigns and promotions and leads/supports other marketing projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position works under the direction of the Associate Director of Marketing Strategy to execute a social media marketing strategy that is consistent and collaborative with the overall marketing and communications strategy for the Museum.
Social Media Strategy and Management
Develop the overarching brand strategy and storytelling across OMCA’s Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube.
Implement social media strategy that optimizes for growth, engagement, and revenue
Research and develop social media editorial calendar, collaborating with internal stakeholders
Concept, create and execute content and campaigns for Main feed, Social Video, Stories, boosted/sponsored posts
Ensure social media content aligns with exhibition marketing & communications promotions and messaging, and museum campaigns
Build and maintain relationships with exhibition artists and collaborators, influencers and social media creators to reach new audiences, grow social following, and increase engagement and revenue
Actively engage with fans who are interacting on posts, stories and DMs, swiftly respond to questions, needs, and requests; monitor discussions for content/comments and provide timely resolution issues
Reporting and Optimization
Monitor KPIs and track performance against goals to evaluate the success of social media efforts; provide monthly performance reports
Perform competitive and industry analysis to identify strategies and opportunities that can inform and evolve OMCA’s social strategy
Stay up-to-date with the latest social media marketing trends, platforms, and algorithm changes, and propose innovations that grow awareness and increase revenue
Video and Photo Strategy
Manage video and photo strategy optimized for a high growth marketing funnel
Develop creative and highly engaging video content optimized for each platform
Work with Design team to create a production calendar that includes video content for social media, website, and digital signage to help promote new exhibitions and programs onsite
Source and manage photographers, videographers, producers, and editors
Manage casting and production plan for promotional video and photo shoots
Work with artists, internal staff, stakeholders, to research and develop scripts video content to highlight different aspects of the museum experience
Regularly attend OMCA exhibitions openings and public programs, such as Friday Nights @ OMCA to cover marketing responsibilities for the Department.
Organize, edit, tag, and select Marketing approved photos for institutional wide use
Digital Advertising
Work with external digital agency to plan, execute, and report performance of social media ad campaigns, and assess against overall Museum goals
Work with Comms and Design to develop video scripts for digital ads
Advise agency to optimize ad performance
Marketing team responsibilities
Support the Marketing and Communications team’s efforts wherever needed
Qualifications
Required EXPERIENCE
5+ years-experience in social media marketing role
A resourceful hands-on implementer who can execute independently
Proven track record of growing audiences and engagement across platforms
Experience developing and executing multi-platform social media campaigns that align with brand and institutional goals.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills - both verbal and written - with internal and external partners
Proficiency with social media management tools (e.g. Sprout Social, Later, Hootsuite, or Meta Business Suite
Strong understanding of analytics and reporting — ability to interpret engagement metrics and optimize strategies.
Strong capabilities in photo and video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, InShot, etc
Exceptional strengths in time management: setting priorities and meeting deadlines
Experience coordinating with outside creative partners, agencies, or content creators.
Strong project management skills — can juggle multiple campaigns and deadlines.
Nice To Have
Experience in museums, cultural institutions, or community-based organizations.
Familiarity with paid social advertising and audience targeting
Knowledge of the Bay Area’s arts and culture scene.
