LEADER OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS
The Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty is a leading international educational organization located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Acton Institute’s mission is to promote a free and virtuous society characterized by individual liberty and sustained by religious principles www.acton.org. The Acton Institute seeks an experienced Leader of Marketing and Communications to develop and execute Acton’s marketing, communications, public relations and media services. Specific title, [Director/Vice President] of Marketing and Communications, will depend upon the successful candidate’s years of related experience and current title. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a marketing professional to grow Acton’s audience and extend our ideas and mission. As Leader of Marketing and Communications, your primary responsibility is to amplify Acton’s voice and expand Acton’s influence, audience, and brand across the U.S. and internationally. In service to other departments, this role manages Acton’s website, email communications, and social media; markets and promotes Acton’s media, events, products, films, and resources; and amplifies and promotes the voices of Acton’s president, scholars, and affiliates. Essential to this role is an understanding of Acton’s educational mission and an appreciation of Acton’s principled and winsome tone and timing. Job Skills and Requirements
An understanding and passion for Acton’s mission and the ability to promote and communicate our mission and ideas to a diverse audience with an educational and winsome mindset. A demonstrated ability to engage collegially and collaborate across departments to support all Acton Institute’s activities. A proven track record of expanding audiences using a variety of marketing techniques, with a particular emphasis on digital advertising and social media. The knowledge and ability to develop key metrics which demonstrate Acton’s audience growth and impact to grantors, benefactors, and other key stakeholders. Strong fiscal and decision-making skills needed to oversee marketing and communication budgets. The ability to effectively communicate to those of Christian faith as well as other religious traditions. Excellent leadership and management skills to build and lead a team of marketers, web developers, media production specialists, and editors. Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills to creatively convey and advance the synthesis of faith and freedom. A familiarity with major personalities and institutions in the liberty and conservative movement. Preferred Candidate
Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Acton’s mission and core principles. Ten or more years of experience in marketing and communications, with a successful track record of leading a team in a similar role. A positive workstyle and commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams. Professional decorum, demeanor and behavior at all times. Respect for coworkers and all Acton guests and personnel and commitment to working as a team player with all members of the organization. Experience marketing and promoting events, podcasts, films, publications, and scholarly activity. Excellent speaking, analytical, and writing skills, with experience editing and proofreading. Ability to manage multiple short‑and‑long‑term projects. Experience with CRM tools, databases, and MS Office applications. Role Requirements
