Join to apply for the Recreation Therapist role at TrustPoint Hospital. TrustPoint Hospital is a 217-bed, state-of-the-art treatment center providing comprehensive medical and psychiatric services on inpatient and outpatient bases. We deliver care to patients needing acute physical medicine and rehabilitation, adult, adolescent, geriatric psychiatry, and medical psychiatry. This position involves Music, Art, or Recreation Therapy. Experience with the IDD population is preferred, but not required. This is a full-time position with days Tuesday–Saturday.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct and implement activity therapy programs as a component of the patient’s treatment plan.
  • Complete activity assessments through patient observation and interviews with patients and families to determine needs, interests, and limitations for treatment planning.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and implement activities within the treatment program to facilitate patient progress toward treatment goals.
  • Develop and deliver activities programs, including therapeutic leisure skills, leisure education, and leisure awareness.
  • Facilitate and lead activity sessions to improve patients’ mental and physical well-being.
  • Instruct patients in activities and techniques (e.g., sports, dance, music, art, relaxation) tailored to their needs.
  • Develop treatment plans and interventions that meet patient needs and support treatment goals.
  • Engage patients in therapeutic activities, such as exercise, games, and community outings.
  • Help patients learn social skills to maintain or regain independence.
  • Modify activities to suit the needs of specific groups.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude; address patient concerns; prioritize patient safety.

Other Functions

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or related field required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of the patient populations served by the facility is required.
  • Previous healthcare recreation experience is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or in the process of obtaining national certification; OR certified in related specialty (Art, Dance, Music, etc.) OR clinical licensure (LCPC, LPC, etc.) with certification in expressive therapy area required.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire).
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
