Qualifications
- Master’s degree in library and information studies from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience in a public or accredited private school (preferred).
- Prior high school library experience (preferred).
Job Goals
- Equip students to be ethical, effective users and creators of information.
- Empower students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and savvy users of digital content.
- Promote intellectual curiosity and ensure equitable access to information and ideas for all students.
- Collaborate with teachers and specialists to co-design and deliver lessons that integrate information literacy skills at the point of need and assess both student learning and instructional effectiveness.
- Build and maintain a dynamic, student-focused library program rooted in current research, aligned with student interests, and integrated with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise support staff, including an assistant, parent volunteers, and student aides.
- Curate and manage the physical and digital library collections and databases to support curricular and recreational reading needs.
- Maintain and enhance the library’s digital presence, including virtual access to resources and services that extend beyond the school day.
- Create and maintain a welcoming, flexible, and safe learning environment that fosters collaboration, exploration, and community.
- Provide faculty, staff, and students with training on new and existing library technologies and digital tools.
- Implement mission-appropriate materials and programming that meet state and national standards for school libraries.
- Stay current on best practices and trends in information literacy, instructional technology, and library science through professional reading, social media learning communities, and ongoing professional development.
- Prepare, manage, and justify the annual library budget to support program goals.
- Serve on school committees and carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School or Head of Upper School.
