Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals, installation guides, release notes, online help systems, SOPs, and checklists.
  • Gather information from engineers, product managers, testers, and SMEs to ensure documentation accurately reflects system functionality and mission requirements.
  • Translate complex technical and operational jargon into clear, accessible language for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Maintain consistency of style, format, and structure across all documentation by adhering to company and customer style guides.
  • Collaborate with illustrators and graphic designers to create diagrams, charts, screenshots, and visuals that enhance user understanding.
  • Manage the documentation life cycle—including planning, writing, editing, updating, and publishing—to align with product and test event changes.
  • Use authoring and publishing tools (e.g., CMS platforms, Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or similar) to produce and deliver documentation.
  • Support test events, working with Test Directors, Range Safety Officers, and test engineers to align logistics documentation with operational objectives.
  • Maintain detailed records of logistics activities, including usage logs for generators, trailers, and vehicles.
  • Contribute to After Action Reports (AARs), documenting logistics performance, lessons learned, and recommendations for process improvement.
  • Develop and update repeatable templates and processes to improve efficiency and standardization across documentation and logistics support.

Requirements

Location: Full onsite at SOCOM HQ, South Tampa.

Travel: Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Necessary Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 5+ years of experience as a technical writer in a DoD, defense contractor, or highly technical environment.
  • Proven ability to write and edit technical documents for complex systems, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
  • Experience working directly with engineers, SMEs, and customers to gather and verify technical content.
  • Strong command of technical writing tools and document management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Active U.S. government Top Secret security clearance with eligibility to obtain SCI.
  • U.S. citizenship required for security clearance eligibility.

Beneficial Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting DoD or Special Operations programs.
  • Knowledge of military documentation standards (e.g., MIL‑STD formatting, JCIDS, DoD‑style guides).
  • Proficiency with visual documentation tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Visio, etc.).
  • Experience contributing to After Action Reports (AARs) and structured lessons‑learned processes.
