Overview and Responsibilities CBS Newspath is seeking a supervising producer who leads by example and will help manage newsgathering operations for its North Region team! This person will manage Newspath's response to breaking news in states in the northern part of the United States and respond to video and editorial requests from CBS broadcasts, owned stations, affiliates and clients. Excellent people/customer service skills are required.
The supervising producer is also responsible for clipping and publishing Newspath video and scripts and assisting in the transmission and distribution of live video, edited video and correspondent packages. The candidate must have experience in working with sources to confirm and verify facts and video elements, especially during breaking news. The ability to gather the elements producers need to put together packages and vo/sots for the biggest stories of the day is critical.
The supervising producer works closely with the managing editor and executive producers to ensure we are aware of the stories of interest from the north region. This person is also responsible for assigning daily duties, credentialling and scheduling for the North Region team. The supervising producer is on call after hours, must be responsive to breaking news, and is part of a weekend manager on‑call rotation.
Responsibilities
Run the day to day of their assigned region
Responsible for making sure we have elements for the big stories out of their region
Manage the assignments linked to their region
Make daily assignments for their team and what they should be focused on
Prioritize assignments, and make sure the team is meeting deadlines
Ensure the accuracy of editorial in elements from their assigned region
Futures planning
Identify upcoming stories and anniversaries and coordinate coverage
Edit video and write abstracts.
Responsible for scheduling all members of the North team
Participate in weekend manager on call rotation—one weekend day every 6 weeks
Basic Qualifications
7+ years producing experience in professional newsroom
Non-linear editing experience required. Proficiency with Avid preferred
Additional Qualifications
Must be an excellent writer with good oral communication skills.
Must have solid news judgment and experience with breaking news, live shots and video transmission
Must be a team player with a positive attitude and be available to work various schedules
Supervisory experience is preferable with good leadership skills and ability to motivate a team
Ability to multitask in high‑pressure and time‑critical situations
Degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred
Hiring Salary Range:
$110,000.00 - 118,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
