APEX Systems is seeking
Technical Writers
to join our high-performing team in developing technical documentation for advanced military systems. Location onsite in Elkridge, MD. Shift: Hours may vary between 35 - 45 hours per week. Compensation: $30-37/hr, based on relevant experience. Duration: 6+ month contract with the potential to extend/convert full-time. Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. Responsibilities
Write, rewrite, and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate technical information and instructions clearly and effectively to a wide range of audiences. Oversee the preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts. Conduct quality reviews of materials. Publish materials in various formats, including page-based, electronic (basic and interactive), structured (HTML, XML, and SGML). Collaborate with task leads, writers, engineers, and instructors to develop and deliver sensor/system technical manuals to varying levels of detail and delivery formats. Perform Desktop Publishing tasks for program/project reports, whitepapers, articles, and other documents. Research and compile information from program documents, engineering sources, etc., to develop manual outlines and adhere to military/civilian specifications and standards of technical writing. Perform other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proactive with strong problem-solving and organizational abilities, and self-motivated. Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field or related area, or military operations and maintenance experience with radar, communications, electro-optics, networks, and information technology-based sensors/systems. Expert knowledge of MS Office Products. Minimum of 2 years’ experience with structured authoring applications (e.g., MadCap, FrameMaker, Arbortext). Proven ability to manage several tasks simultaneously and have excellent attention to detail. Self-starter and engaged team member. Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years’ technical writing experience. Knowledge of standard content management strategies. Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100). Knowledge of XML, SGML, HTML, S1000, and DITA for structured content. EEO and Benefits
