Costume Design Sewing Associate

As a costume design sewing associate, you will complete assigned costumes by hand or with a sewing machine. You will ensure a clean and safe workspace, maintain costume storage, and handle assigned costume alterations. Responsibilities include costumes, wigs, masks, and other production accessory fittings and stitching. You will operate industrial sewing machines and sergers/overlocks to assist students in the completion of costumes, fabric preparation, pattern layout and marking, garment assembly, and pressing. This includes demonstrations of industrial sewing, hand sewing, and fine finishing techniques. Additional duties may be assigned at any time by the costume shop manager and production technical director.
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in costume design, costume technology, fashion technology, or a related discipline
At least one year of related experience and/or equivalent education and experience in draping, flat pattern drafting, and costume construction for theater
Experience in sewing pattern development based on rendering and research imagery, draping, construction of menswear, and tailoring for theater or live entertainment environments
Familiar with costume history and construction methods
Proficient with hand sewing machines
Travel Required
Less than 10%
Work hours:
The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
