The Colonial Players of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School (PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA) is requesting submissions for experienced assistance in the area of Technical Theater with a background in stage lighting for their 2025-2026 theater season. Seeking dynamic and creative technical theater professionals to work collaboratively with our production team. Must be able to design and implement all aspects of lighting for our performances as well as teach students the skills of the craft. Skills in other areas such as sound, construction, projection and stage management are a plus, though not required. Housing/travel is not provided. Applicants are required to have up to date PA and Federal clearances.

Responsibilities

Pre-production planning with the production team. Participate in understanding the director’s vision and script flow, so that tech can be planned accordingly, collaborating closely with other departments.

Pre-production planning with the creative team to determine plans, materials needs, material costs, schedule, student participation.

Communicate budgetary needs to the Director by designated date.

Plan and implement light plot, including the hanging and programming of lights and projections with student involvement.

Train students in lighting design fundamentals including hanging, design, programming and execution.

Arrange delivery or pick up of rentals as appropriate.

Attend final dress rehearsals and performances to monitor student implementation of light plot and troubleshoot if necessary.

Attend set strike to break down all light equipment, reset equipment and return rentals when appropriate.

Fall Drama

Rehearsals: September - October: 2-3/Week to plan/teach/implement (days/times flexible)

October - November: Monday evenings, Wednesday evenings, Saturdays for runs, other work sessions as needed

Performances: November 13-15, 2025

Set strike: November 16 - 18, 2025

Spring Musical

Auditions/Casting: November 24-25, 2025

Rehearsals:

December - February: 2-3/Week to plan/teach/implement (days/times flexible)

February - March: Monday evenings, Wednesday evenings, Saturdays for runs, other work sessions as needed

Performances: March 12-14, 2026

Set strike: March 15-18, 2026

The PWHS Colonial Players is an award winning theater program dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of live theater performance in our local community. The Players present two productions per year, a fall drama and a spring musical. As a member of the Philadelphia Independence Awards, the Colonial Players have been recipients of several awards including Best Musical (2018 - The Theory of Relativity), Best Creative Effects (2018 - The Theory of Relativity), Best Light (2022 - Newsies), Best Sound (2023-Urinetown), Best Song( 2025-Matilda) and a 2021 Jimmy Awards Semi-Finalist.

The mission of the Colonial Players is to educate its members and patrons in our community in theater. Students in our program learn many facets of theater craft including performance, design, production and technical skills. Patrons of our program are able to see high-quality productions of a variety of Broadway-style shows. Together, we all learn and grow through theater as a community.
